Senior Women’s State Amateur Stroke Play Final Round: 7-time champion Annette Gaiotti is No. 1 seed
As the son of Annette Gaiotti, ski racer Jared Goldberg has given the Utah golf community a longtime connection to the Olympics.
Gaiotti, a seven-time champion, will be joined in the quarterfinals of the 33rd Utah Senior Women’s State Amateur by two Utah golf newcomers with their own Olympic ties: former U.S. field hockey player Kris Buchanan and Anouk Patty, the Chief of Sport for US Ski and Snowboard.
The 72-year-old Gaiotti (78-76) earned medalist honors Thursday by four strokes over 2023 winner Nuny Khamken (77-81) on Mountain Dell’s Lake Course. Adding to the Winter Games theme, she will meet Patty in Friday morning’s quarterfinals, with the semifinals to follow in the afternoon. The 18-hole final match is scheduled Saturday morning.

Gaiotti can join Bev Nelson (Women’s State Amateur) as the only eight-time winners of a single Utah Golf Association event.
The other quarterfinal pairings are No. 2 Khamken vs. No. 7 Buchanan, No.3 Kareen Larson vs. No. 6 Mona Stevens and No. 4 Nancy Beck vs. Steph Belnap, the leader among senior women in the Player Performance Rankings.
Buchanan (84-83), a member of the Promontory Club in Park City, was a first-team All-America field hockey player at the University of Iowa. Patty (86-83), who belongs to Jeremy Ranch Golf & Country Club, was an All-America skier at Dartmouth.
Stevens (85-82) was another outstanding college athlete apart from golf, as a softball pitcher for the University of Utah. The Provo native later became the program’s head coach. Stevens was a Senior Women’s State Am semifinalist in 2022.
Stroke-play awards were presented in three flights; match play will determine the official champion.
