Wasatch Mountain Seniors Three-Peat at Promontory Dye Canyon

Wasatch Mountain earned its third consecutive senior 8-man victory on Wednesday, September 28th at Promontory Country Club on its Pete Dye Canyon Course. The team earned the No. 1 playoff seed by going undefeated during the regular season with eight wins.

The Wasatch Mountain seniors played Bonneville 1 in the quarterfinal round and defeated them 26.5 to 9.5 points to advance to the semifinal match. They then played Bountiful Ridge in an attempt to advance to the final match and successfully did so by earning 30.5 of 36 available points.  

Their final match opponents, the River Oaks Golf Course seniors, advanced by the skin of their teeth during both the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. They defeated The Barn seniors 19-17 during the quarters and managed to slide past the seniors of Stonebridge Golf Course by one point (18.5-17.5) to make the final match versus Wasatch Mountain.

River Oaks came out of the gates strong as the underdogs. In the first match, Pro Dave DeSantis and Keith Nielson earned 7 out of 9 points over Pro Stu Nelson and Joe Cornwall. However, Wasatch Mountain gained the upper hand by one point during the second match after Brett Sampson and Kirk Siddens earned 7.5 points against Gary Hatfield and Greg Lemieux.

Wasatch Captain Mike Holm and Guy Child shutout River Oaks teammates Brad Bevan and Bill Pettigrew to bring the overall total to 18.5-8.5 and seal the deal for Wasatch Mountain leading up to the fourth and final match.

Bill Probst and Steve Moulton earned an additional 7.5 out of 9 points over Jeff Losser and Rob Hill of River Oaks to end the match 26-10 and secure a three-peat for Wasatch Mountain Golf Course.
