Three Advance in U.S. Open Qualifying
The first stage of the U.S. Open Qualifying was held Monday at Riverside Country Club with 50 players vying for three advancing berths. Matt Johnson, Mike Borich, and Henry White each shot two under par 70 to advance to the sectional qualifying round. Since all three earned the right to advance a playoff for individual medalist honors was not held.
Steve Schneiter and Jon Wright each shot one under par 71 to miss by one shot. Jon Wright chipped in on the first playoff to earn the first alternate spot. Steve Schneiter is second alternate. Daniel Summerhays chipped in on the fifth playoff hole to become the third alternate.
